Events and Progress
Here you can share some info about recent events and/or progress, the content of which can link to blog posts, or just remain here. Putting an 'issues' section here would also be an excellent idea. Getting text to show up on the white shirt AND the black background isn't easy.
Since March, the Nolish campaign has knocked on thousands of doors in District 4. Our team has taken a unique approach to campaigning that values making connections and being on the ground in District 4 communities. This has brought Jeffrey and the rest of Team Nolish closer to our neighbors and has given us the opportunity to meet the Detroit and Hamtramck residents that Jeffrey wants to fight for in Lansing. Thanks to everyone who came out to our Community Discussion on Tuesday at Source Booksellers! We had important discussions on housing, public safety, car insurance rates, and many other issues of concern to District 4 residents. We’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to bring our message of good jobs, good schools, and quality transportation to the community and we’d like to give a special thank you to Janet at Source Booksellers, Garlin Gilchrist II, and Lauren Hood for making this possible.
Our next event, Pizza and Politics, will be 7pm next Tuesday at PieSci. Join Jeffrey to learn more about what our campaign stands for, eat pizza, and to make your voice heard about the issues and policies that affect you daily. We are on a mission to talk to as many House District 4 residents as possible and we want to hear about your priorities for the neighborhood. Bring a friend, grab a slice on us, and let Jeffrey know what's on your mind. Vegan and gluten free options will be available!
Our message of good schools is centered around providing better opportunities for House District 4 residents to get a quality education. We believe we need more funding for public education, more funding for school infrastructure, and more funding for each and every student. Our schools should have the best resources, but there are no greater resources than our teachers.
Jeffrey is running to support them. In 2009, he taught English abroad while living in Thailand, and in 2012, while studying in Chicago, Jeffrey marched beside Chicago Public School teachers in their fight for better benefits, job security, more clear evaluations, and more training. Jeffrey understands the crucial role teachers play in the life of every child, and in Lansing, he will continue to be their champion, and yours.
Donate and volunteer today to fight for quality education for our teachers, students, and parents!

Detroit has the highest pedestrian fatality rate for a major American city. It is unacceptable and it is a concern we’ve heard from dozens of residents we’ve met while canvassing.
Quality transportation means giving the residents of District 4 access to opportunity through pothole free roads, fair and affordable auto insurance, robust regional transit, and streets that are safe for pedestrians. Our children should be able to play and live in their communities without fear of traffic violence, and everyone should be able to get around freely and easily. Last year, we lost 26 residents in fatal pedestrian crashes. Let's work toward a better future and achieve quality transportation together.
This weekend was extraordinary. We marched to prevent gun violence with the March for Our Lives - Metro Detroit. We marched with puppet pageantry at the 9th Annual Marche du Nain Rouge - 2018 Edition! And after both, Ian and I went out to knock doors. This team is incredible. I couldn’t ask for a more committed crew. Help us to continue to fight for our communities. Donate today: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/votenolish

2. Read this column: Candidates should think about urban planning: https://www.detroitnews.com/…/candidates-urban-pl…/33162041/ I specialized in metropolitan planning and urban affairs in grad school. I worked as a Detroit Revitalization Fellow and Mobility Specialist at the City of Detroit Planning and Development Department. I am 100% prepared to talk about urban planning. Help me to bring this perspective to the State House.
